DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

Green Hills International College is a co-educational, purely boarding, American-style, mixed international school, offering secondary school education – from grade 7 to 12. The age ranges for our students, spread across the six grades are; Junior Secondary (grade 7 & 8) – 13 to 14 years. Middle Secondary (grade 9 & 10) – 15 to 16 years. Our pedagogical and the related instructional approaches are engaging and interactive for purposes of bringing out a whole learner who is complete in the three learning domains, i.e., cognitive, affective and psychomotor. At GHIC, we are built on the foundation of global and transformative education, and thus, we stive to provide a classroom learning environment that intrinsically motivates our students to “learn how to learn”, and become agents of change, globally. We encourage our students to appreciate and embrace diversity, both at school and in the classroom by applying culturally relevant and responsive, but challenging instructional strategies and pedagogies throughout the teaching/learning process. We envision that by the end of six years, our graduates shall have attained global citizenship status by acquiring sufficient skills in the five key areas of Numeracy, Literacy, Social life, Science & Technology, and Diversity. Our instructional content is carefully designed, to ensure its effectiveness, with the learner as the focal point. All our designs do mirror the well-known instructional design models and their basic structures, thus conforming to the global best practices. This is to ensure our learners receive instructional content that has thoroughly gone through the processing cycle of Analysis-Design- Development-Implementation-Evaluation. Our learning cycle, especially for the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) subjects is an inquiry-based instructional strategy based on the theory of constructivism. We believe that the students construct new knowledge on top of their prior knowledge, therefore, it is very essential for the teacher to access the prior knowledge of the students before introducing any new concept. Based on this belief, our teachers engage the students using the 7E learning cycle model where students are made to; Elicit, Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate, and Extend, in the course of their learning process. As it is our Vision, we aim at providing quality holistic education to our students, for self-reliance. I am quite certain that with the talented team of the faculty and the boarding staff members that we have, we shall achieve this vision. I encourage all parents, students, staff, the community, all stake holders, partners and all those with common minds to ours, to get involved, share ideas, ask questions, challenge the status quo and critique positively for us to realize this noble vision together. Sincere appreciations to the entire GHIC community for your support and commitment. What we have achieved and what we will achieve is not possible without you. I am truly looking forward to the brightest future, since it is already brighter, going by our achievements so far.We are quite aware there is still much to do, because this is a continuous academic journey. To achieve this, we are prepared to face the many challenges along the way, as well as take calculated risks. Equally, there shall be plenty of opportunities to be grasped in the course of this journey. I believe in this way; the school shall grow from strength to strength. We are tirelessly but smartly working to ensure, GHIC becomes home, away from home, to both staff and students, by providing a working and learning environment that is enjoyable, conducive and enabling.

OFFICIAL SCHOOL OPENING

The school was officially opened by H.E. EVARISTE NDAYISHIMIYE, the President of the Republic of Burundi on the 12TH NOVEMBER, 2022 in a colourful ceremony held at the school premises. Green hills International college is fully licensed by the ministry of education of Burundi.

We are a fully licensed International School by the Ministry of Education of Burundi. We also run an international test center for American College Test (ACT). ACT is a trusted leader in college and career readiness. ACT serves millions of students In the US and around the world with learning resources, assessments, research, and credentials designed to help them succeed from elementary school through career. THE WORLD SCHOLARS CUP - 2024

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝑪𝒖𝒑 This year we participated in the World Scholars Cup - Mombasa Round at the Light International School Mombasa under the theme dubbed "Reconstructing the past". Our learners performed exemplary well in all the events i.e. Scholar's Bowl, Collaborative Writing, Scholar's Challenge and Team Debate. We always trust in God and shine.
